Why Hire a Professional?
DIY is everywhere, and many people succeed in carrying out a full range of household repairs. While many of these jobs are ok to do yourself, electrical repairs are not one of them. Electrical currents can cause serious harm and can result in real emergencies, even death.
This is why calling a professional electrician is so critical, especially if you are looking to have any electrical repairs or installations done in your home or business. At McWilliams & Son Heating, Cooling Plumbing, we take your safety seriously. All of our technicians are thoroughly trained and have the proper tools to safely handle your breaker and fuse repair and replacements.
Fuse vs. Breaker
Is there a difference between a fuse and a breaker? Yes, they are in fact different terms, but they both provide the same service. Both a fuse and a breaker can control electricity flow throughout your property. In the case of a power surge, they will blow or trip in order to protect the wiring, and prevent the risk of electrocution. How the two components differ, however, is in how they go about carrying this out.
- Fuse: Older homes generally have fuses. Fuses have a metal strip that melts (safely) when there is a power surge to disrupt the circuit. If a fuse has blown once, it will need to be replaced.
- Breakers: More modern homes will have breakers, which can be tripped several times before needing replacement. When there is an overload, the breaker will trip.
